Sharing monochrome cocktail dress
By admin on 2014-12-26

Proving that you can still wear the latest trend for prints, even if you're over 35, Naomi Campbell looked hot to trot at a fundraising dinner in New York recently.

The fiery-tempered former supermodel chose a monochrome, assymetric cocktail dress from designer label Issa, costing a the best part of a luxurious GBP1500.

The narrow waist, with clever smaller slimming print, and draping wrap skirt flatter her tall, svelte figure.

Could it do the same for an average-sized woman?

Despite Naomi Campbell's statuesque figure, when we tried the dress on our own size 12-14 model it looked worryingly short - a sudden gust of wind or dropped coin could be potentially very embarrassing.

This also meant that there was rather too much thigh on show for any woman to carry off.

And because the skirt is so short, it has the effect of widening her hips. Which is a shame because the top half is actually very flattering and slimming.

The key here is to break up the pattern - opt for a darker bottom half, which has a slimming effect and also smooths out any bumps, and keep the pattern for the top half, like this Reiss dress (GBP89).

This allows for a clearly defined waist, while the V-neck enchances her shape. Proof that prints are wearable, whatever your shape.
