Xiamen tightens ban on fireworks during Spring Festival

On 14th January, a meeting by the Xiamen Fireworks Security Management Team was held to discuss the firework problem during Chinese Spring Festival.

This year, Xiamen will tighten its ban on fireworks during the Chinese Lunar New Year. People who illegally set off firecrackers could be fined with the maximum punishment according to the law, learned from the meeting.

The meeting urges the related authorities of public security to strengthen management over letting off fireworks at retail stores within Xiamen Island and at the outlying areas.

From February, the authority will launch a series of inspections on fireworks. Police will pay close attention to the illegally setting off fireworks especially on Chinese New Year Eve, 8th and 15th February of the lunar calendar.

The meeting also listed out six key areas that should be closely monitored:
1) Siming and Huli District
2) Hotels, bars, night clubs and other public entertainment venues
3) Retail stores and vendors at fringe areas within Xiamen Island
4) The banning areas at outlying districts
5) Legal companies which store excess fireworks
6) People who illegally transport fireworks or buy fireworks illegally .
