Ranking of Top Restaurants in Asia--Da Dong
By admin on 2014-12-22

A relatively new dining bible, called the Miele Guide, recently published their 2009/2010 edition, which named the best 40 restaurants in Asia. Created in 2008, the folks at Miele aim to recognize and celebrate Asia’s best chefs and restaurants.

Miele Guide proprietors define their criteria as follows:

“Thousands of people from around the world cast more than 98,000 votes for the best restaurants in 18 countries across Asia. After four intense rounds of voting and selection, the smoke cleared and 16 countries (3 more than were in the first edition) and 450 restaurants (130 more than were in the first edition) made the final cut…When assessing restaurants, all voters and jury members are asked to consider: (1) the quality of the food served; (2) the ambiance of the restaurant; and (3) the level of service offered. Most importantly, their votes should reflect the tastes of Asian diners.”

Two items worth mentioning is that Da Dong was named the 12th best restaurant in Asia. It is unclear whether critics visited the sleek Nanxincang storefront or the more traditional Tuanjiehu location. Regardless, congratulations to Da Dong for continuing their fine tradition of roasting quackers favored by locals and expats alike. Another point worth mentioning, M on the Bund scored the number 14 spot. This portends high expectations for the newest Michelle Garnaut outlet, Capital M. Early reports are favorable, though the lauded view is underserved by the increasingly colder weather.
