By admin on 2014-12-22

As the only National Village designated to be of cultural and historical characteristics in Guangzhou, Daling features century-old architectural structures such as an ancestral hall made of oyster shells, stone bridges, pagodas, sculptures, wells, academies and typical ancient streets, all of which are unique in South China.

The origin of the village dates back to the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). By the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), the village was home to one of the scholars who ranked third in the National Imperial Examinations of the Qing Dynasty. The individual ranked 34 of 53 scholars who passed the National Imperial and Provincial Examinations respectively, was a native of our Province. As well, over 100 prominent Imperial government officials were born in this village. Currently, many villagers have access to higher education.

Located in Shilou Town of Panyu District, a place that is only two or three kilometers from the Asian Games City, Daling village received RMB 20 million allocated by the town government which aims to restore the village's appearance to what it was during the Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing dynasties. The project is expected to be completed before the 16th Asian Games are held. According to the planning, there will be a protected zone of 9,000 square meters, covering the Shangcun Village area to the east, the Xiyue area to the west, the area of the Daling primary school to the south and including Shewei in the north.
