The Sixth Guangdong Modern Dance Festival Opens in July
By admin on 2014-12-19

As the opening ceremony of the annual Guangdong Modern Dance Festival this year, the internationally acclaimed dance tells the story of 10 servants trapped in a basement of the house of a cruel mistress, it looks at power, free will and the inevitable compromises one must take.

The festival launches a dialogue with professional modern dance troupes from Europe including Denmark, Spain, Netherlands and France. Black humor features as a specialty of the Denmark group, in their Mancopy? Dansekompagni. They will also bring another two performances - Running Sculpture–a pas-de-deux depicting the passion of a couple of lovers waiting for the dawn at the white night, and Iconic/Ironic.

Double Duo, an upgrading version of the Absolute Solo which was shown last session, emphasizes the charm and creation of the stage performers themselves. The two parts - Near... and La Fletrissure - explore the delicate and complicated relationship between lovers and friends.

Top modern dance troupes in China, along with the overseas counterparts, will be involved as part of the festival stage. The host Guangdong Modern Dance Troupe will present an Untitled work by Choreographer Liu Qi who is well-known for the physical fluidity and movement sensitivity in her choreography.

Hong Kong's CCDC and Beijing's LDTX, two of China's top dance troupes, will try to echo the European culture with their background music and dance. The Hong Kong new wave choreographer Dominic Wong challenges Gidon Kremer in his attempts to create 12 variations on Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. His choreographer colleague Xing Liang pursues his quest for the unorthodox in Point and Line to Plane, a live-art project which redefines his own experiences of dance.

The Beijing Dance/LDTX performance delves into the dancers' natural state of mind on and behind the stage in Rehearsal and Performance: At Odds, will end the event thoughtfully.
