Acupuncture Standards
By admin on 2015-01-26

Acupuncture, a China's traditional therapy, should be internationally standardized after listed as the country's intangible cultural heritage, according to experts at an international forum on Saturday.

More than 100 experts from China, Singapore, Iran, Egypt and other countries and regions attended the Asian Acupuncture Forum in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.

Acupuncture has won international fame, but still needs standards as a medical procedure, such as manipulating needles, so that it can stand up to the attitude that Chinesetraditional medicine is unscientific, said Li Zhenji, secretary general of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. Acupuncture has so far performed ambiguously when subject to double-blind tests.

Guidelines on acupuncture should be drawn up for doctors in different countries to standardize practices, said Liu Baoyan, vice chairman of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies.
