Monkey King for kids

After three years of preparation, China Children's Art Theater will bring Journey to the West, a large-scale children's play to the stage this weekend. Adapted from the classic novel Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en, the play innovatively mixes music, martial arts, acrobatics and street dance together in hopes to attract young audiences.

"I'm excited, for this play took us three years and it completed finally. It is a work of art we create with our minds and hearts. I'm very grateful to director Zhang Qihong, the screenwriter Chen Chuanmin and all the performers and all the staff in our crew," said Zhou Yuyuan, president of China Children Art Theatre and producer of the play.

Divided into three acts, the play focuses on the birth of Monkey King, the story of the Monkey King subdues the Skeleton Demon three times, and how he traverses the Flaming Mountains.These three parts will be performed on three consecutive nights from August 13 to August 15.
