HUST Delegation Paid a Visit to Korea

A HUST delegation headed by Prof. Feng Youmei, executive vice chairwoman of the University board and dean of Tongji Medical College, visited Yonsei University, National Seoul University of Technology, KIST Gangneung Institute and Osong High-Tech Medical Park in Korea on July 21-24. 

 On July 21 the delegation visited Yonsei University, a renowned private university. The delegation was welcomed by Provost Yang II Sun and Vice President Kim Dong Hoon. The two sides signed an intercollegiate collaborative agreement.

The two universities' cooperation was highly supported by Hubei provincial government, Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department and the Office for Wuhan National Bio-industry Base. The signing ceremony was attended by Hubei Provincial Governor Zhang Changer, Hubei Provincial Deputy Secretary General Liu Changxi, Director General of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department Wang Yanjue and other experts of bio-industry.

The fruitful cooperation in the fields of biomaterials contributed to the signing of the agreement. Since 2004, supported by China National Science Foundation and Korea Science and Engineering Foundation, Prof. Zhang Shengmin has maintained collaboration with Prof. Lee of Yonsei University. In 2007, headed by the two universities, China-Korea Center for Biomaterial and Nano Biotechnology was founded. Hubei Provincial Deputy Governor's present at the signing ceremony witnessed the process from joint research center to comprehensive intercollegiate collaboration, which signified a new phase of development to the two universities' cooperation.

At Yonsei University, the delegation also visited the University library, medical college and the affiliated hospital.

Dr. Ai Hongge, Education Councilor of the Embassy of China in Korea met with Feng in the evening. Dr. Ai introduced the history, status quo and development of education exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and he hoped HUST can make groundbreaking achievements in future cooperation.

In the following day, Feng visited National Seoul University of Technology. National Seoul University of Technology is also a key member of the China-Korea joint research center. Prof Feng met with Seoultech President Prof Rho Jun Hyong who is the former Minister of Information and Communication. The two signed collaborative agreement and reached consensus on future cooperation. In addition, the delegates visited Seoul Techno Park, a high-tech industrial park co-invested by the city of Seoul, Korean Ministry of Information and Communication and Seoultech.

The delegation also made special trips to Gangneung for a visit to KIST Gangneung Institute, and Osong for Osong High-Tech Medical Park.

The delegates included Prof. Yang Xiangliang and Prof. Zhang Shengmin from the School of Life Science and Technology, Prof. Zhang Yonghui of School of Pharmacy, Deputy Director Guan Xiaoxia from Institute of Research and Development and representative from the International Exchange Center.
