China Ethnic Art Rewarded in Ningxia

The second Ningxia Culture, Arts and Tourism Exposition ended in Yinchuan in northwest China on a high note on Monday. The closing ceremony presented the winners of China's Ethnic Minority Drama Competition.

Dance drama "Hua er" from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region won the gold. Now let's take a look at what made the team from Ningxia so special.

Under the helm of famous director and choreographer Zhang Jigang, the dance drama "Hua'er" is branded with Zhang's signature, meaning, it shows the beauty of symbolic traditional culture through smart and modern expression.

It's Zhang and his cast and crew want to carry the most popular folk sounds of China's northwest "Hua'er" to a wider audience.

Highlights from the drama also touched the hearts of audiences when the piece was selected and shown as part of the epic dance drama "Road to Revival," which was born to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China.

Along with this golden award winning work are plenty of musicals that featured strong ethnic flavor. Art troupes from around China presented 12 shows to the audience during this year's 8-day exposition in Ningxia.
