Guozhuang Bonfire Dance in Tibet
By admin on 2015-01-14

Guozhuang village is in Qamdo Prefecture, the east of Tibet autonomous region. Guozhuang bonfire dance is the most famous fork dance in Tibet.

In the old time, when travelling merchants took rest at night, they built a bonfire cooking teas. After dinner they danced around the bonfire, to escape from the tired from the whole day trip.

Now Guozhuang bonfire dance is performed for festivals, ceremony or marriage. Both men and women get into a circle, hand by hand. The whole song begins with slow part and gradually turns fast. Men always take the first lines of lyrics, and women reply. Once up again, until they get into the same happy rhythm.

Guozhuang bonfire dance has been cataloged in the first set of the national intangible cultural heritage since 2006.
