Irish chamber band

The Trio Festivale from Ireland will hold a recital featuring Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Flute, Cello and Piano Trio No 78, Carl Maria von Weber's Flute, Cello and Piano Trio No 63 and several Irish folk songs.

The chamber band comprises Sabrina Hu on the flute, Gerald Peregrine on the cello and Cathal Breslin on the piano. The different cultural backgrounds of American Hu, Englishman Peregrine and Irishman Breslin give the performance a unique sound.

Southern flavor

The Zhejiang Symphony orchestra will bring to the Beijing stage Jiangnan (Southern China) style music. The orchestra's repertoire is adapted from local music. Helmed by Zhang Guoyong, the concert will present Search for Xihu Lake in Dream, Dragons Rising and Tigers Leaping and Double Stars.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahler, the concert will include his Symphony No 1.

Urban angst

The four-act modern drama Gloomy Youth tells the story of young urban youth. Five college graduates, who chose different professions, have very different life experiences.

Traditional theme

Liu Guangda's tiger-themed ink paintings and Lei Ling's pen drawings are on display at the show Black and White Impression

Liu's tigers are executed in freehand brushwork. He emphasizes the rhythm of the lines and the vitality of the images.

Lei's works draw from traditional customs and modern life. The aesthetic images, expressed in black and white lines, have a strong decorative effect.

Cabbage cult

Han Xucheng, a loser in the National College Entrance Exam two decades ago and a single dad of a son and daughter, pours out his inner feelings on canvases.

He mostly paints vegetables, particularly the Chinese cabbage - a unique vocabulary symbolizing the elusive and changing nature of urban life.

Tibetan scenes

Young artist Feng Bin is showing her works in ink at Beijing Mountain Art Space.

Trained in traditional Chinese ink painting, Feng has striven to find new possibilities for the Chinese painting genre over the past years.

British art

The British Consulate-General in Shanghai presents The Future Demands Your Participation, an exhibition of 89 works of art drawn from the collection of the British Council.

Among the 40 participating artists are 12 Turner Prize winners and 21 Turner Prize nominees, such as Mona Hatoum, Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and Mark Titchner.

The exhibition is one of many British cultural events planned for the 2010 Shanghai Expo.

Ode to Chopin

Chopin, the greatest romantic musician in the 19th century, was called "the piano poet".

In order to mark the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth in 2010, Shenzhen Concert Hall invited Chen Sa, a talented pianist regarded as "one of the best performers of Chopin's music" to stage a commemorating concert.

Chen Sa's soulful rendition of Chopin will surely satisfy the audience.
