Canada's Vancouver Sun has praised the artistic achievements of Taiwanese artists who will perform at the Cultural Olympiad in Vancouver in February.

According to the paper, Lin Hwai-min, founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, “could be considered the Taiwanese Baryshnikov.”

The report, titled “Cultural Olympiad: A taste of Taiwan comes to Vancouver,” also recommended the performances of U-Theatre, saying, “The sheer speed and coordination of the percussionists has amazed audiences.”

Meanwhile, the Chai Found Music Workshop was described as presenting “a real taste of Taiwanese music.”

Cloud Gate is scheduled to give two performances of “Moon Water” in Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre Feb. 5-6, while U-Theatre's performances of “Sounds of the Ocean” are scheduled for Feb. 12-13 at the Center for Performing Arts in Vancouver. Chai Found, as well as LAFA and Artists Dance Company, will perform in March.

The Cultural Olympiad Vancouver 2010 began Jan. 22, featuring hundreds of art and popular culture events from all over the world.
