Doctors in China begin medical services to Haitians
By admin on 2014-12-26

A Chinese medical team started providing their services to local people less than 40 hours after arriving in the quake-battered Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.

They set up a makeshift hospital Wednesday morning outside the toppled parliament building, which is very close to a big shanty town in the capital city.

About 300 people were treated by the Chinese doctors in four hours, many with infections on open wounds, said Wang Yurong, head of the Chinese medical team.

Other patients include pregnant women and small children brought over by their parents, Wang told Xinhua.

All the 40 members on the Chinese team have been put on active duty on two shifts a day, he said.

The Chinese doctors arrived in Haiti on Monday in a chartered plane, which also carried 21 tons of relief supplies. China sent out its rescue team on January 12, the same day the quake struck.

Eight Chinese peacekeepers were killed in the quake.
