Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University (HBAU) was  first established in 1958. It was founded by General Wang Zhen, the former vice  president of China; who was also the minister for the Land Reclamation  Department and served as the first president of the university.
HBAU was  located in the remote and rural town of Peide, near Mishan city in Heilongjiang  province. With the provincial government’s approval in October 2003, HBAU as a  whole, moved to a new high technology industrial development zone in Daqing city  and achieved strategic  relocation.

The National  Research Center for Coarse Cereal Processing is also located in the university.  Currently, HBAU has the total enrollment of about 15,000 students including  about 1000  postgraduate students. There are 1431 faculty members, including 149  professors and 231 associate professors.    Since 1958, HBAU has trained forty thousand students for  the country, including undergraduates, specialty students and postgraduates.  Many of them have become the backbones in all aspects, both in and outside of  the Heilongjiang reclamation area and the province. At present, HBAU is  undertaking 730 scientific research projects at different  levels.    Within these 55 years, the university has established a  stable exchange and cooperation relationship with overseas universities and  research institutes from many countries, including: Russia, South Korea, Canada,  Ukraine, America, and Australia.
HBAU occupies 1 million square meters with 456,500 square  meters of total campus construction area. There are 13 colleges, 44  undergraduates programs, 37 masters programs, 6 doctoral directions, and 4  specialized masters programs of agricultural extensions in HBAU.
