Sep. 9, The Best Day to Get Married in China
A good day to get married always seems to be a tradition of China. This September 9 is a special day for Chinese as it contains three "9s" which share the same pronunciation with the Chinese word "九 (久)," meaning long-lasting.
After wedding registries peaking on Aug. 8th, 2008, Guangzhou's Civil Administration Bureau will welcome another auspicious day for the will-be wedded this year. Yesterday (Aug. 9) was the first booking day for the one-month advance registration. A long queue has already been formed in front of the bureau since 12 o'clock in the midnight. The on-line booking system was occupied at 2 a.m in the city's Yuexiu district. Up to yesterday afternoon, most the on-line reservations were filled around the city.
Like many other lovers, Miss Liu and her boyfriend selected this date of registration for marriage long time ago. "Some of my friends also choose this special day," Liu said. After a "traffic jam" on the internet, Liu finally became one of the 72 lucky brides on this Sept. 9 in the Yuexiu district.
Director of the local Civil Administration announced that, although the on-line booking was full and the phone booking was busy all day, they were not going to limit the registration number for this all expected lucky day.
