Internationalized Hainan
The proposal by Hainan provincial government to transform the island into an international tourism destination is likely to be approved in the near future, according to experts quoted in a recent report by China Securities Journal.
The construction of Hainan International Tourism Island is moving forward with only relevant policies needed, analysts were quoted as saying.
Chi Fulin, head of China Reform and Development Research Institution, Hainan, said that if the plan of building an international tourism island was approved, then the direction for Hainan would be clear. He added that the role of Hainan in Southeast Asia also needs to be reoriented.
The proposal of transforming Hainan into an international tourism resort is also the starting point of establishing a free trade zone, according to Cao Xiren, a professor at Hainan University. He added that in the future, free trade should be realized across the island similar to Hong Kong and Dubai.
