"Chinese Disney" to be built in Hunan
A new development in central China's Hunan province is gaining some buzz, promising to be China's answer to Disney.
Shenzhen Huaqiang Holdings Ltd, a leading manufacturer of high technology electronics goods and precision instruments, will build a cultural and technological industries base in Hunan, Changsha Evening News reported.
The project, which covers an area of 500 hectares with a total investment of 15 billion yuan ($2.20 billion), is the biggest of such kind in central China, the report said.
The project will include two theme parks and a series of bases for creative industries, cartoons, films and television postproduction and personnel training. The project has been hailed as "Chinese Disney", the report said.
The first phase of the project, which covers an area of about 133 hectares with an investment of 5 billion yuan, will be completed and available for visitors before May 1, 2011.
Shenzhen Huaqiang has built several theme parks in Chongqing municipality and cities of Shangtou and Wuhu, which, soon after opening, have become renowned tourist sites. The company has also signed contracts to build theme parks in Iran and South Africa.
